The 11 (Eleven) District Rural Development Agencies (DRDAs)  were established in the year 2000 and converted into District Rural Development Offices (DRDOs) under Rural Development Department on 7th September, 2022 for smooth implementation of Rural Development Schemes & Programmes in Mizoram.

DRDO aims to improve socio-economic conditions of the rural community and to uplift the people living below the Poverty Line. These objectives can be achieved through providing wage employment (MGNREGS), self-employment through training (MzSRLM), development of their farm land (PMKSY) and also creating permanent Assets for strengthening the rural infrastructure. The office also aims to provide basic amenities like shelter (PMAY-G) by constructing pucca houses etc.
